Thursday Activities

*This week we will be learning all about addition for Math as well as how to use the engineering design process to create a physical model.*

Math:

Count to 100 song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rkxjAa3755U

Activity download: Download here

Directions: Print the activity from the link above or create one by hand. You do not need to use the apples from the link you can use the mat we created on Tuesday to fill out the worksheet. As a matter of fact, you can just write the addition problems in your notebook. You can use what you have at home to complete this activity.

Send a picture to your teacher through ClassDojo or email of the additon worksheet or your notebook.

Objective: Students will be able to represent addition problems with objects, drawings, or mental images.

Engineering:

*Today I will need your help to try to solve an engineering problem. Listen to the book Rosie Revere, Engineer and then watch the activity video.*

Engineering song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R3a8oD6_YlU

Engineering question: Where can we keep animals that live on a farm to keep them safe when it rains, it is cold, or at night?

Activity Video: https://youtu.be/H39NEVZWmsA

Directions: Can you think of how to solve this problem? On a piece of paper design your solution. Use things that you might have around your house to create the possible model that you previously design. When you are done, think of ways to improve your design and see if you can make changes.

Take a picture of your model and send it to your teacher.

Objective: Students will develop a simple physical model to illustrate how these representations are useful in communicating ideas for a problem's solution to other people.
