Thursday Activity

*This week we will be learning all about adding to 10 in Math as well as using our new sight word to write a sentence for writing.*

Math:

Directions:
  • For today's math activity we will be creating an addition sentence.
  1. Have your child pick two things that they can draw, like in my picture. I drew fish and jellyfishes.
  2.  On the bottom of the paper write the sentence I have ___ ____ and ___ _____ that makes _____.
  3.  Have your child fill in the blanks.
  4. They can write the word for what they drew and how many of each.
  5. The addition sentence must equal 10.
Send a picture to your teacher through ClassDojo or email of the addition worksheet or your notebook.

Objective: Students will be able to represent addition problems with objects, drawings, or mental images.

Writing:

*Today I will need your help to try to solve an engineering problem. Listen to the book Rosie Revere, Engineer and then watch the activity video.*

Topic sentence: "The little ____ can ____."

Directions

  1. Watch the sentence writing videos with your child first.
  2. Then, on a white piece of paper, draw some writing lines leaving a blank space on the top for your child to be able to draw. I recommend you color-code your lines. Blue for the top line, red for the bottom-line, and green dashes for the mid-line.
  3. Ask your child what they would like to draw about. The little what? What can they do? It might be easier if it's about animals as that is what we have been talking about.
  4. Write their chosen words for them somewhere else, not on the writing paper, and have your child write the whole sentence.
  5. Once they are done writing ask them to draw a picture on the blank space above the writing.
Take a picture of your model and send it to your teacher.

Objective: Students will develop a simple physical model to illustrate how these representations are useful in communicating ideas for a problem's solution to other people.
